North by the Northwest (1959) is one of my favourite movies, for sure, because of Alfred Hitchock (I've never seen a movie of him which I didn't like yet), because of the main character Cary Grant (he is the best, no doubts) and because of the movie itself, of course.
Besides, every time I watch -again and again- I'm attracted by the actors' looks.
Cary Grant is absolutely perfect, it is told that he and his part in this movie inspired the James Bond's character for beauty, charm and savoir-faire.
But in this movie Cary Grant has a beautiful blonde girl by his side, Eve Marie Saint. It is told that Alfred Hitchock decided all the clothes for her character, going personally to Bedford Goodman. You cannot say he had a bad taste in fashion.

A very elegant black-silk dress with a red roses pattern. A typical dress of 50s fashion. In addition to the gorgeous pattern, the beauty of this dress is the wide neckline on the back, a marked waist line and a skirt that blooms like a flower and goes down just below knees. The shape of the skirt reminds me a bit also the dresses worn by the French nobility during the XVIII century. Although the actress is very slim and not particularly shapely, this dress gives to her a sinuosity extremely feminine and polished.

Let's move on to the second cloth which caught my taste. It's a dark gray dress, for sure sober in colour and shape. This dress seems to be more 60s in style, leaving curvy shapes for long-limbed lines. But actually 50s' femininity isn't absent at all: first of all, there's a little fabric coloured-contrast belt to define the waist line. And still, a soft flared skirt, a little hat and a brown handbag matched with the dress, and a timeless pearls' necklace make this outfit simple but sofisticated meanwhile.

As I already wrote in a previous post, I wish I lived in those decades!

Come ho già scritto in un altro post, avrei davvero voluto vivere in quegli anni!
