Favourite of the month: january 2014

Preferito del mese: gennaio 2014.

For this month the favourite award goes to a product I've own for many years, and it has a special room in my bathroom. Generally speaking, there are some products that should be present in every house: bicorbonate soda, lemons, starch, ... I would also add tea tree oil to this traditional list.

Tea tree oil is an essential oil taken from Melaleuca artenfolia leaves, which is a typical tree from Southern-East Australia.

Questo mese il podio non va ad un prodotto scoperto recentemente, ma ad un alleato presente da anni nel mio bagno. Ci sono oggetti in casa che non dovrebbero mai mancare: il bicarbonato di sodio, i limoni, l'amido... Alla lista più tradizionale io aggiungo il tea tree oil.
Il tea tree oil è olio essenziale ricavato dalle foglie della Melaleuca alternifolia, un albero originario dell'Australia sud-orientale, comunemente detto "albero del the".

This oil is almost colorless and has a very strong, balsamic scent. It's a very concentrated liquid, as well as all the other essential oils, and it's actually a dry oil: if you drop it on sheet of paper, it should dry quickly and stain very lightly. It is known for its antibacterial property.

You can easily find tea tree oil in biological supermarkets or herbalist's shops, or still online (and usually it's even cheaper). I had bought this 25ml jar some years ago in local shop and, if I remember well, I had paied it about 10 euros.

Why is it my favourite of the month? Because it cured a little fungus on my hand, I applied it for few times mixed with some moisturizing cream and it worked perfectly.

Quest'olio essenziale si presenta pressochè incolore e con un forte odore balsamico. Come tutti gli olii essenziali è molto concentrato, è oleoso ma secco quindi, facendo una prova con un foglio di carta, dovrebbe svanire velocemente e rilasciare un alone molto leggero. La sua caratteristica è quella di essere un forte antibatterico.
Il tea tree oil si può acquistare nei supermercati biologici e nelle erboristerie, o ancora online dove generalmente costa qualcosina in meno. Io avevo acquistato questo boccetto in un'erboristeria della mia città, e se non ricordo male l'avevo pagato circa una decina di euro per 25ml di prodotto.
Perchè lo nomino preferito del mese? Perchè con un paio di applicazioni sciolto in una crema idratante mi ha completamente asciugato un principio di fungo su una mano.

This oil is a little treasure: you can mix some drops with your moisturizing and you'll get a great purifing treatment for your skin, or with your shampoo to apply on your head. You can also use it for intimate hygiene or a steam treatment for your skin; besides there's who drinks it with water (but actually I never tried it so I'm not able to talk about it).

This oil is a great friend to keep in the bathroom!

Quest'olio è un piccolo tesoro: si può mischiare qualche goccia con la crema idratante come trattamento anti-impurità sulla pelle, oppure con lo shampoo come trattamento per la cute. E' utilizzato anche per l'igiene intima o nei vapori per il viso, c'è chi lo assume persino per bocca (ma io sinceramente non ho mai provato quindi non saprei indicarne le modalità del dettaglio).
Insomma, un vero alleato che non può mai mancare nel mobiletto del vostro bagno!
