Style tips: how to purchase bags

Esercizi di stile: acquistare la borsa ideale.

As I wrote in previous posts (click and click), my rule for shopping is: less is more and quality is better than quantity, especially for footwear, handbags and outwears. Quality does matter sometimes.
This does not mean you have to spend all your money to buy high-street accessories, but just to pay attention to what you are buying and eventually to pay a bit more if it's worth.

L'ho già scritto in post precedenti (qui e qui), ma non mi stanco mai di ripeterlo: esistono capi in cui la qualità fa la differenza, ovvero scarpe, borse e capispalla. Quindi meglio pochi ma buoni.
Questo non significa dover dilapidare i propri risparmi per possedere un accessorio firmato, ma porre maggiore attenzione alla qualità del prodotto e valutare anche qualche piccolo investimento.

Here there are my rules for shopping purses.

1. First of all, I focus on what I would like to purchase. What kind of bag? What shape and what size? And, most of all, what occasions for? This is my starting point when I want to buy a new bag, and I split bags in 4 big categories:

   - Big sized bags for daytime, spacious and comfortable for various occasions, from work to travel
   - Medium size bags, not too spacious and adaptable both for daytime and nighttime
   - Little purses for special occasions or nightime
   - Special purpose bags (such as beautycases or beach bags)

Ecco le mie regole quando voglio acquistare una borsa.
1. La prima fase è di Analisi: rifletto su ciò che vorrei acquistare. Che tipo di borsa? Di che forma e dimensione? E soprattuto, in quali occasioni vorrei utilizzarla? Questo è il punto di partenza dei miei acquisti e potrei suddividere le risposte in 4 macro-categorie:
   - Borsa di dimensione medio/grande da tutti i giorni, capiente e comoda per le occasioni più varie, dal lavoro ad un viaggio
   - Borsa media non eccessivamente capiente, da utilizzare sia per il giorno che per la sera
   - Borsa piccola per occasioni speciali o la sera
   - Borsa per uno scopo ben preciso e dedicato (esempio: borsa da spiaggia o beautycase)

2. If your wish belongs to medium and big sized categories, you have to study what colour your new bag should be. These two types of bags are the ones I wear most, that's why I always look for a basic colour: black, dark brown, leather brown or beige.

I want a bag that is solid and adaptaple in many occasions. For that reason, I could look for something more expensive and invest my savings, especially if I can get a bag that I do like and it won't get damaged shortly.

2. Se l'acquisto ricade nelle prime due categorie, la mia analisi prosegue nello studio del colore. Queste tipologie di borsa sono quelle che indosso più spesso in assoluto, per questo cerco di acquistarla in un colore base: nero, testa di moro, cuoio o beige.
Cerco una borsa versatile e robusta, che non si rovini velocemente. Proprio per questo motivo, sono disposta a spendere qualche soldino in più se questo mi permette di avere una borsa che mi piace, che possa sfruttare spesso e che non si rovini alla svelta.

3. If the purchase is for nightime or special occasions (for example ceremonies), I go for low-cost shopping very often: I usually find pretty and cheap items. In this case you could buy bags in a basic colour or a simple shape as well as more eccentric ones, even matched with a particular dress. If the bag is cheap, you can treat yourself with some shopping without regrets. Anyway, even if you can't expect high-qualities items, don't forget to check what you are going to buy: prefer satin fabrics rather than eco-leather and watch carefully stitching.

3. Se l'acquisto deve essere una borsa da sera o per occasioni speciali (cerimonie ad esempio), guardo spesso anche nei negozi low-cost: spesso ci sono cose sfiziose a poco prezzo. In questo caso quindi per me sono concessi sia acquisti oculati, in un colore basic e una forma semplice, sia acquisti più eccentrici o legati ad un particolare abito. Se vi affidate ad un negozio low-cost, potete prendere ciò che vi piace senza pensarci troppo. Attenzione comunque alla qualità della borsa, non deve essere di brutta fattura: preferite i tessuti all'ecopelle e controllate le cuciture.

4. Special purpose bags usually have defined peculiarities: a beach bag must be light, spacious and easily washable, or a beautycase must be solid and well-organized.
Even in this case, I don't usually spend a lot of money, but I've always found what I wanted effortless.

4. Le borse con scopi ben precisi generalmente devono avere caratteristiche molto precise: una borsa da spiaggia deve essere leggera, lavabile e capiente, un beautycase compatto e ben organizzato. Anche per questa categoria generalmente non spendo grandi cifre, e devo dire che ho sempre trovato quello che cercavo senza troppi sforzi.
